Hello, I have a Yerf Dog go kart (two seat's) with a 6.5 Hp motor.
I put a larger carb on it which fixed the surging and now idles. It has the stock torque converter on it. Me and my buddy went into sandy trails, which was fine until we got into thicker/softer sand we ended up pushing it as far as we could go. Then we smoke the belt on accident, so we turned the belt around and made it home. I really want to have the power to go through the sand. Is there anything I can do to the 6.5hp engine to make it capable of doing so. Thanks, And sorry for being such a noob.:roflol:

Change your gear ratio to something more suited for your driving habits. Count the teeth on the drive sprocket and the driven sprocket then post #'s.....
You have a tec engine, don't you..... ? (Tecumseh ) best mod you can do to it, for a $100, is to ditch it and replace it with a predator 212...... Yes it's still 6.5 hp but you can up that to an easy 8-12, depending how deep your pockets are...... Even for 30 minutes and $20, I can get more power out of the 212 than that tec engine....

I turned the belt around so we could get home. It wasnt engaging so we had to do something!!! Or else we are pushing it 3 miles through sand and mud. I have herd if you drill holes into the airfillters housing it would increase airflow into the carb. Is this true??? And is there any way I could maybe byepass the clutch? And would this benefit my driving habit?

If you bypass the clutch you will never be able to stop the kart without the engine cutting out. Starting it will be a hassle too as it will want to take off all the time

Hmmmmm.....where to start ????.................mmmmmmm............:useless:

Sounds like the first modification you should be looking at is tires!!!

And maybe.....just maybe....that TC belt was on it's last leg anyway....

In theory....drilling holes in the cover should increase air flow....BUT! .....keep in mind that they were designed by folks that design things for a living...and went to school and such for that purpose.....

It's more likely that it's pretty well matched to the filters capacity to draw air....and drilling holes is just a good way to let in more sand.....

Welcome to the forum....and please fill out a profile location....so we know where you are from....

I will post pics as soon as I get home.

I have already bought a new belt for it and its coming this Thursday :)
And I now understand why I can't why I can't bye pass the tourqe converter, sorry for the stupid question.

And I don't see the point on getting different tires if the ones on the go cart don't even spin in the sand, so there is no traction problem.

And I planning on putting on straights with a metal beer can cut in half, done it before on a barstool racer (Really deep rich sound) and looks good too. Lol

But is there anything I can do instead buying a new engine, I really don't want to lower the gearing because its already really slow (25mph) on the rode and dirt. Sand (0mph).

Well, you never answered, so I am gonna assume you DO have a Tecumseh engine..... I feel sorry for you..... :lolgoku::oops:
And we still don't know what model "2 seats yerfdog " ya got..... So...... Big NO on the 4 wheeler engine..... :lolgoku:
I'm just messing with ya.... BUT no, on the 4 wheeler engine.
The yerfdog isn't what you'd call a prime candidate for swapping in an over sized/ over powered atv engine. Now, I'm NOT saying it can't be done, it's just at what expense? To use an atv engine, you're gonna have to redo the entire reservation end. Well, to be safe, and do it right. And then that's where the $$ starts adding up. If you look at the 32 ford go kart I'm building, you'd see I'm using 200cc dirt bike engine for power (20+hp:lolgoku:) , but it's custom built to handle it. If you look at DesertDueler's contest entry, and his other karts, you'd see he's using rotary engines putting out over 20hp.....some of them way over 20hp.... BUT he builds the kart to handle it.....
The point is, your kart wasn't meant to handle much more than probably 10hp. They are not the best karts, but some of them are actually pretty decent. Again, we don't know what you got.....
Bottom line is, if you have a tec engine, sell it on cl as a running go kart engine. When you sell it, then you :bannana::bannana::bannana::bannana:
because it is a piece o'crap to begin with..... :lolgoku:
Go buy you a 6.5hp predator 212 for $100! (or if you got the bread, buy the 8hp 3/4" shaft) With the 212 you're starting off with 6.5 hp. For less than $50, you can DIY it into 9-10hp.... Cheaper if you can weld.....
You say you only get 26mph? Ok so with the modded 212, you drop drop your ratio a little to give you more grunt on the bottom end, and still get 30+ mph..... All for less than just buying the atv engine......
EDIT
Oh, if you got the 8hp, you'd do the same mods and get 12+hp pretty easy.....

Sorry for the later response but the model is a 3203 with a crap tec engine. I have used one of those 212 on my barstool (top speed 48mph) and they run really good. Should I get one for that go kart?

I really don't want to lower the gearing because its already really slow (25mph) on the rode and dirt. Sand (0mph).

Increasing the gear ratio will make it slower on the road but, it can't get slower on sand... & that's the problem... you need the low end torque to push you through the sand, right now, it's not doing that, it's just bogging down...

If you think about it, an ATV engine would be a great option because, as well as providing reverse, it will also provide the lower gears necessary to start off in soft sand, which would negate the issue I addressed above, you would have everything, low end for take off, high top speed & reverse...
