I am new to this forum and don't have a lot of experience with go-carts. I just bought a 32001 Yerf Dog with the 6hp Tecumseh, it runs OK on the flats, but just a little of an incline causes the clutch to slip, it gets so hot that its melting. I have taken the spring loaded side of the clutch apart and cleaned it, made sure it moves freely. Then I moved the motor back a little to take up the slack in the chain, however, that did nothing to help with the rubber belt not gripping. I am not sure if this is the correct belt, it is a Powerlink 743 20, any help would be greatly appreciated. I am attaching 3 photo's, one of the clutch with the motor off, one while running, and one of the clutch setup. All taken with the belt removed, I do have the aluminum cover box to replace once I figure out the problem.

That TC is well paired with the 6HP engine. Both of the flat faces must be in perfect alignment or it will not preform well, and they look to be mis-aligned.

I just took a closer look and the larger pulley looks to be maybe 1/16" out of alignment with the smaller. If that is enough to make it slugish and jerky when trying to pull away, how do I align them, which one can be moved in or out etc?

I can't see the belt well enough to tell if it's appropriate. It should not have a typical V-profile- one side should be angled (I forget the angle offhand) and the other side should be very nearly flat. Furthermore, even with the correct belt, the centre-to-centre distance between the drive and driven pulleys must be DOB accurate. We need to figure out the proper belt for your system and get everything spaced properly.

And yes, having the pulleys out of alignment will cause excess heat and accelerated wear.

Here is a photo showing the pulley's lined up. They look very close to lined up to me, not shure how to move one or the other. Also included a photo of the crank spindle and inside the centrifugal clutch. The whole system seems to overheat, which makes the belt very soft and also melts on the edges.

well your diver looks fine. and it will get hot and your belt will get kinda soft ,but melting? thats not supposed to happen. and your CD should be fine since you have that back plate(or what ever its called)on there so the CD is set. it isn't out of alignment enough to hurt it. i say check your driven.
