Im a first time builder, and looking for some help. Im building a go kart in school, and really dont know what im getting myself into. I have a dt 175 dirtbike motor, and have a good idea how to mount it, but what would anyone suggest for gearing it. I would like to be able to do about 50, but yet have alot of the low end tourqe.

well there almost like shifter cart tires, but not as wide. There pretty small. Im not planning on really going off tar with it. I saw a thread earlier with a guy that has a rm 250 motor, and he put a 23 tooth sprocket on the rear, so i was kinda thinking putting around a 30 tooth, maybe a little bigger..?

Without a lot of information- Measure the diameter of the donor bike's rear sprocket. Now measure your kart's rear tire and figure out the size difference as a percentile. Example- an 18" kart tire is 25% smaller than the bike's 24" tire. So- Just by changing tires, you've geared down (slower) by that 25%. Further reduce speed by adding teeth to the rear sprocket. You can use a percentile again- then by adding both percentiles together, you can get it where you want it, basically. Bear in mind that it helps to know the expected max speed of the bike, and to remember that a kart will be heavier and therefore a bit slower.
the measurements on the tires are 4.10/3.50-5. Im assuming there a chinese or japanese make. ill try and post some pictures of my frame this weekend, my buddy is making my motor mount because he works at chart industries, so he has all the right tools for it
