I just bought a H.F. blue motor last week and got it running on my little boys manco cart. He was showing off for his granny on Sunday and tipped it over on its side and rollcage. The motor ran for about 5-10 seconds before shutting off from lack of gas I'd guess. It didn't touch anything when it went over. When I tipped it back over and tried to start it, the handle came out about half way and almost ripped off my hand. I can't seem to get the engine to turn over using the pull rope. I took off the pull rope and turned it a little bit with a big screw driver, but I didn't actually turn it over a full rotation. I was short on time, so when it turned by hand I put the cover back on thinking it was working now, but it still won't let me pull out the rope. Do you guys have any suggestions? Surely it didn't lock up the motor did it? :mad2:

Try pulling the spark plug and then try to rotate it.This will stop the compression allowing for it and whatever else might be in there like gas or oil come out the plug hole.If it does turn over do it in tell everything comes out the hole put the plug in try to start it.

What ever you do don't try to force it,If that does not work then you will have to go into it farther however if you have a warranty I would take it back before tearing it open.

Hope this helps!!!!

5-10 seconds... I would've guessed the oil sensor would have kicked in by then. I'm guessing slightly seized...

Another thought - If it's always at that certain point, the pull start could have a problem too!

hmm. yeah pull the plug and see. If there's oil in there, I'd drain all the oil from the engine, then turn it upside down with the plug out and let it drain. Probably spray a bunch of carb cleaner in there too to get out the oil film.

Assuming it's that. :)

Thanks for all of your input guys! I haven't had a chance to look at it again yet, but I hope to tonight. I will be sure to let you all know if that helps or not.

I do have the warranty from H.F. for the 90 days and then I bought the extra 2 years too (cost me less than $14 for it!!!!). I just hate to have to trade it in already if I don't have to. I don't want any issues with them over replacing it for me in the future. Does anyone know if there warranty will replace it multiple times over the 2 years, or if it just replaces it once? I never thought to ask them that.

Thanks again for your help.

Bare in mind that warranty covers factory defects only. I would not tell HF what actually happened. Just play dumb.
They may not really care anyway.
I have a feeling they're making mucho dinero on sales of this engine and probably lose close to nothing given the large amount of units sold.

Well I do agree with all of you about telling them the least amount that you have to. I was told by the salesperson that if it broke in any way, no matter what happened to it, it was covered. I just noticed that on some of the paperwork that was given to me that it said "This is a one-time replacement only. Once the product has been replaced, this contract is terminated." It also says a bunch of stuff about calling some number to get a Return Authorization number before taking it back to the store and so on, but the salesman said just walk in there with the bad one and walk out with a new one.

As far as my problem goes, you guys were right. I pulled the plug out and the combustion chamber had oil in it. :mad2: I cleaned the plug off really good and slowly pulled the handle till I got all of the oil out that I could. Then I pulled it quickly until it stopped spitting any oil residue out. I then topped off the oil in the crankcase. Should I do anything else before restarting it, or is that good enough. I know that it is going to :sifone: till it burns out the oil.

Do what robert said so that it minimizes the :sifone: .
