Help with gx340 setup

Let's start with I know nothing about go karts I picked up this kart for the engine (hell of a deal). Curious as to what this setup was intended for, (looks pretty rigged) and what you would get/do to make it right.
Would want it to have moderate acceleration but be a beast on hills.

I would. I had problems with the CVT pulling the side cover off the engine, when the chain was straight from axle to CVT.
Lotsa fun getting sprayed with hot oil.

Yes, keep the jackshaft. Put the driver on your engine and the driven where the 1st sprocket is now. Hope you got a good deal on it. Is that just a bad picture, or is it as rusty and carrodid as it looks?

You may even need a little longer jack shaft.
