Howdy,

I have a B/S 5hp, on an old Manco kart, I've replaced the muffler with 12" pipe, taken off the carb, cleaned it, new diaphragm, gaskets, (B/S carb overhaul kit) and removed the governor linkage(external, did not go inside the motor).

The thing sounds sweet when I have it up on a milk crate, lots of power...but, as soon as I get it in it to take off, it bogs and dies.

I've tried every possble adjustment on the mixture screw, nothing.

Could it be a bad centrifigal clutch? It's a max torque, which is about a year or 2 old. We run thse around a dirt track in our yard by the way and this has just gotten progressively worse to the poitn where it is now.

Thanks for any and all help/suggestions.

Yes, it will kind of run fine if you go easy on the gas under a load, but while I nhave it sittign up on a milk crate, it runs, idles, revs great....
thanks for any an all suggestions..

Get a compression tester and check it. I'd almost bet money it's low. I had a 5hp briggs-it would start no problem-rev up when it was off the ground and wind up-didn't smoke or anything --then get on it and try to go and it would die on its' face. It didn't matter if you eased on the gas or not. How old is this motor??? Did you run it with a straight pipe for a long time?

yup id say check the compression. I had a hell of a time trying to get mine to get up and go. Finally i checked the compression it had 25lbs. It ran great and went good as long as there was no load on it
