HELP! trying to add on a secondary switch to gokart engine.

Im running a Subaru robin ex27 on my go kart. I dont really like having to reach behind me to turn the go kart off. So thats where my question is. how do i add on a secondary switch to turn the engin off without reaching behind me

Easy as pie. Splice into the wire that goes from the magneto to your kill switch. Run a wire from that splice point up to a convenient location, like the steering wheel, or steering column support and attach that wire to one terminal of a single pole, single throw (SPST) switch. Run a wire from the other pole of the switch to any good ground on the kart. (like the steering column support).

When testing, keep the engine's switch "on" or the engine will not start. If your new kill switch doesn't work, there's a bad ground between the engine and the grounding point you used.

You can also just get a length of wire and extend the original kill switch to a convinient spot.

As a matter of personal preference, I like to keep the original on the engine. If anything were to go wrong at startup, you have a chance of smacking the switch before it gets away from you, over-revs, or whatever mishap could occur...

Just remember that when you put a new switch on, the "on" position will shut the engine off, and you'll have to turn the switch "off" to run the engine. Or just turn the little plate that says "on" and "off" on a toggle switch around and avoid confusion.

What?
Okay I think I know what you're driving at... IF (big if) you're new switch is marked or has a marked plate, the "on" position closes the circuit, grounding out the coil and killing the engine. Having the circuit open is what's needed to run. If the switch is marked, install it upside down.

Haha I guess it was kinda confusing. But you all figured it out. Basically i was saying that "on" for a kill switch is really the "off" position, because once you close that circuit, you ground out the engine.

Well I got it to work. The way I did it was splice the wire going from the magneto to the kill switch. Then the two wires I have I made longer then attached it the SPST switch. The main kill switc has to be in the off position for the kart to run. We'll it can be in any position but to turn of it needs to stay in the offf postion then the secondary switch needs to be switched to the closed positiong and it will turn off
