So we had the kart fired up last week before we sent it off to the machinist to do our exhaust and sprocket hub. While it was there he did some small things as well like a few braces and regrounded our coil. (It was more or less just hanging by a screw before.

However now it will not fire up. We have fuel and compression and I thought we had spark but I am no longer sure. I pulled the plug out of the engine and reattached it to the plug wire. I then kicked over the engine while my friend watched for spark at the end of the plug, but we could not visually see any spark. Went and bought a new plug (as it is a 2 stroke and eats plugs) and tried again. Nothing changed. Still could not see spark. However, when I felt the plug as the engine was kicked over, it did shock me rhythmically with both plugs when i held them, indicating the plug is getting power.

I was told by a friend that its probably a 2 second fix and I just have to adjust the coil but I'm not exactly sure what this means or how to do it.

If I can get it fired up this weekend we will have our first test drive so please help!

Just to clarify- (because your description is not quite clear)

When you check for spark by removing the plug and re-attaching the wire, you MUST hold the threaded portion of the spark plug (the bottom) firmly against a clean, unpainted part of the engine block or cylinder head. If you don't ground it, it won't spark- no matter how good your ignition system is.

I completely forgot about that. We will try it when we are home this weekend and see if it is sparking. If it is not does anyone have any idea why?

When you got shocked, you were then grounding the spartk plug like it would have been if you were holding it against metal. You will have spark, I am pretty confident about that

It is going to be some other problem stopping your engine from starting

If the plug ends up wet after trying to start, could possibly be timing out ( if the engine has a flywheel key check to make sure it hasn't sheared allowing the flywheel to spin on the crankshaft)

If the plug is dry then it could be an air leak. The engine can still have normal cylinder compression with an air leak.

This info may apply to your engine however without knowing the make & model I'm not sure.
