We are going to need some pics, as well as an explanation egarding flipping the sprocket around. What is this supposed to achieve besides putting it on the other side of the kart

You need to get a lot of PB Blaster (or something) in there...

If you have a blowtorch, try Pat's (machinist@large) wax trick: heat up the axle near the wheel hub & run some wax into the joint...

:oops: Sorry, I can't claim credit for that one; someone else posted it (their name escapes me ATM), I just confirmed their sources as being on the up & up. And wax was just a part of the recipe; the problem I've just found is that the computer that I had that on is the one that died on me last fall:censored: I'll have to go troll thru the back posts again to get it back.......:surrender:

Penetrating oils

:idea2::wai: Found it!!!!! I just don't know how to link to it!!!:censored::mad2:

OK, to sum it up, it was posted by robbie on 2/12/2012 under penetrating oils (Other stuff, off topic fun). To sum it up, the top three penetrants tested by Practical Machinist magazine were;

3] Liquid Wrench

2] Kano Kroil (for three times the price!!!)

and 1] a 50/50 mixture of ATF and Acetone, well mixed.

The top three were all within about 5% of each other for effectiveness; I personally haven't had a chance to try the ATF/Acetone mix yet, but Liquid Wrench works well enough that I can't justify the cost difference for Kano Kroil. Kroil is a little better, but (for me at least) not three times the price better.

Hopefully this helps you out with the axle/sprocket swap.

:thumbsup::cheers2::popcorn: Pat

WD40 will wet it... & that's about all. Propane won't get it hot enough, especially if you're only heating the axle.

Get the liquid wrench into it & let it soak for a couple of days, frequently adding more

Soak it in PB blaster or deisel for a few days

Stand it on its end then fill the inside if the rim full of what ever u have

Then put the axle nut back on all the way till its just above the threads in the axle
This will protect the axle when u hit it

Then get someone to hold the tyre while u belt it
Or vise versa
This will only work with a big hammer like a gimpie or better a sledge hammer

It is definite u will be chasing it around the yard

The last time I had this issue I soaked them in pb blaster and then drove the kart with the axle nuts backed off a few threads. This way it is still safe to drive, but the rims have a small amount of movement to break free. Obviously don't go top speed all out, just a lot of cornering and hopefully they will break loose. Worked great for me.
