Post some pics of your kart. A lot of people on the forum use predator engines. You can use a centrifugal clutch. What is your tyre diameter and rider weight. We will need this, as well as some pics, to really be able to help

I'll have to post pics tomorrow but I will. I'll also have to look at the tires but they look like your average size tire. As you can prolly tell I have never really messed with gocarts mechanically I just rode the crap out of them. I'm actually between a 6.5hp preditor engine or a 8hp Briggs&Stratton.rider weight is about 170 for me but its a 2 sweater so I can give my kids rides. I'm also not to sure about the sprockets and axel

The more teeth on the engine sprocket the higher the top speed. Larger axle sprocket with lower the top speed.

Remember that too high of gearing and it won't accelerate or climb hills.

Due to the limited sizes of available clutches, it's more common to change the size of the axle sprocket rather than the engine sprocket.

For arguments sake, let's say you have a 12tooth clutch; if you mate it with a 48 tooth axle sprocket, you'll have a 4:1 gear ratio; great top speed but, it'll never get there because the clutch will burn out trying to move.

On the other hand, if you mate the 12t clutch to a 96t axle sprocket, the ratio will be 8:1, it'll take off like a bullet but won't achieve a very high top speed.

Achieving the correct gearing involves a combination of things, engine size/type, transmission type, vehicle weight, driver weight, tyre size...

Ok have a question before I get to far into this. This Briggs engine has a gear reducer box on it so should I leave it on or take it off. If I leave it on how do I do the clutch or can I go with out a cluch

If the box is removable and leaves you with a 3/4 or 1 inch keyed PTO shaft then take it off.

The clutches are designed to engage at a certain rpm. With the reduction box it won't spin fast enough.
