Hello DIYGoKarts forum!

I have a honda clone 212cc 6.5hp engine that has an oil leak (generally when stationary) on the right side of the crankcase. The leak still occurs when their is only a dribble of oil left in the engine. Here is a picture showing where I think the leak is:

How can I solve this? Should I just replace the crank case gasket? or is it not a big issue?

Many Thanks for all your help
Henry

I would check to see if the amount of oil is correct... as in the gas hasn't seeped into the crakcase and now is why its leaking(Its happened to me twice, not turning off the gas petcock)...
If that is good... then you might have to put a new gasket......

Have you already opened the case before on this motor? If so you've might damaged it previously without seeing it. hence why its not sealing...

It might be cheaper to buy a kit with a backplate even if you don't need it. Save a few of those gift card bucks. You get the same stuff plus more for cheaper.

But assuming you have a 5/8" (16mm) secondary shaft, the Driven pulley with the kit will work. I don't know what length belt you need for your application. Different crank shaft to jackshaft distances require different belt lengths.

I tested it last night with a fresh sheet of paper underneath and no leak. I think you are right!! I am normally very lazy after a ride and don't turn the gas off as I didn't think that that could happen. I haven't opened the engine up before so this must be it.

Thanks again! :wai:

Thanks for that! I have had a massive problem finding a torque converter for this engine in the UK (especially with a back plate). I don't think the demand for them is so high here and importing from america would have doubled the cost. many of the Chinese ones don't seem to have a backplate! instead I have gone for this:

It is a bit over my budget for a clone but was the only other one I could find. better than a centrifugal clutch ey?
Again thanks for your help!

Change the oil... Good to go... It's a Honda(clone), not a Harley... It doesn't really leak...
