Help needed

I have a very frustrating problem that I hope you can help me with. I have a 40series torque converter installed on my 16hp go kart however everything is installed correctly belt and chain lines up and torque converter works but when I start engine gokart takes off I’ve changed the carburetor adjusted idle and throttle and and at low idle engine bogs and shut off I’ve tried everything my understanding is the torque converter acts as a transmission is this my problem if that’s the case I’ve even replaced the driver pulley on a new torque converter. It’s puzzling to me and frustrating and wasting money on trial and error can you help I sure can use it

Have you had the driver apart to make sure the rollers are in their grooves? Pancho can give you a formula for the driver to make it work good.

If the engagement rpm is too low ( the kart creeps at idle, or takes off ) you can raise the engagement by about 1200 rpm by installing the light weights and stronger springs in the driver. These kits are sold by OMB Warehouse. Maybe other places also. I bought mine there. About $40 for the 2 kits. They can also be installed separately, one or the other and raise engagement rpm by around
600 rpm each. Looking at your pictures, it looks like you have everything spot on.
I bought mine to get a stronger launch. Didn't have a problem with the kart creeping. It will also raise the rpm of when the driven starts to shift into the higher range by the same amount. Should let you set your idle high enough to get rid of the bogging problem.

I'm no expert, but I thought his belt was too tight at rest. Thought there should be more slack in it.

Really hard to tell without being able pinch the top and bottom together. Never had any trouble with mine trying to creep. Ran the belt that came with the converter. They're not always the best quality, but are usually the right length.

Is your governor adjusted properly? The governor controls idle speed. Each throttle and governor spring needs to be the correct one and installed correctly. Put the rear of the kart on stands and run the engine. Do the rear wheels turn? Did the belt come with the torque converter? Here's how to measure for the correct belt.
