To fit the much larger bore gx390 carb to the 224 required a custom manifold, port job, and port matching to said manifold.

All seems like standard practice to me, bigger carb needs a bigger intake, but any given port can only handle so big before leaking

check the needle check the slide is it going all the way down . could be a burr in the slide or a bent needle .take idle screw all the way out make sure choke is not choking and with the chain off or clutch off start it by giving it a touch of throttle , just a tickle anything that dont have other issues will start like that and if your slide is closed all the way like it should and you did all that you got a intake leak still so if your a vaper or smoker .put a gatorade bottle on the carb like its a air filter poke hole in bottom and fill bottle with smoke and put your finger over the hole and squeeze .thats my way and it helped me find my leak i swore up and down i didnt have
Hey, I've kinda got the same issue. I'm bit confused because previous replies are saying it needs a bigger carb. Although his bike (like mine appears to be too running to rich and want's to run away when it's started. I have to have the needle on the highest rung, the air/fuel all the way in, and the slide adjustment to the lowest point.
