HELP ME!!!!! Please I need Push mower info QUICK

I was starting to mow the grass with my dad's push-mower and I noticed it was smelling bad and it died so I checked the oil and there was smoke coming out of the dipstick hole. For some reason I couldnt get an accurate oil level reading. It was good a couple mows ago.... I really hope I did not just destroy my dads push-mower buy not checking the oil. He just washed it though so mabey he tilted it on the wrong side for too long. I don't know if there is oil in the air filter or not because I dont want to take the stupid bolts out and not be able to get it back on.

Its off topic because its not go-kart related, redsox (and the real red socks suck too). Anyway, so you're saying you can't get a reading of oil that is consistent after letting it sit? Is the engine locked up to where you can not pull the rope?

Model number of engine? If its a briggs 3.5 make sure the PCV system is all OK and the vacuum operated choke is working.

also its basic but make sure the mower is on a level surface to check oil. We use a briggs quantum, it has no low oil sensor, and has spent plenty hours at a 45degree angle on awkward slopes lol, so the oil is not reaching one of the cylinder sides and each time it starts it lets out a fine gust of smoke, quite amusing to see lol

Hee...Hee Oops.. Heh..he.. It was out of gas..... Not sure why there was smoke coming out of the dipstick hole though. Don't like them toros though with them lame briggs engines. If I had it my way I wouldn't be pushing around that big heavy mulching mower and I'd be using a lawn boy.

Why is your dad washing your lawn mower in the first place?

My recipe for success with my 11-year-old mower is:
- Never check the oil, never mind change it
- Never wash it or clean it in any way
- Replace the blade whenever you destroy it by hitting tree stumps
- Put gas in it when it runs out

Might have been more "vapor" than smoke.
