probably a TC is going to be most effective.

do an intake and exhaust mod.

remove the governor.

its up to you how much further you'd want to go

such as:
billet rod/flywheel
18lb valve springs
modified cam shaft
timing advance

just leaving the engine stock what kind of setup would you do to get that speed ? and will a t.c give me that speed w/ out removing gov.?

It all depends on tire size and gear ratio. A bike engine would give the best results though.

you could try, and if it doesnt then bypass the governor in a test run before actually removing it.

the only reason i say to change the intake/exhaust is because theyre cheap and easy to do and improve performance a respectable level.

putting a TC on a cart that doesnt have one will most likely require welding and modifications to the drivetrain UNLESS it has a jackshaft, which will make it easier.

because no one has tried what your doing with your setup and your cart there is no set of speeds you will go, its completely trial and error, and testing.

Is the kart going 50 for your child? Keep in mind that your go-kart being a yard kart is made from stamped parts, this is a dangerous act going over 35 in a kart.

Is there a specific purpose you want to go over 50?

You have several problems you'll face, first is your steering, stamped parts = shaky steering past 35mph.

Next. Engine + gearing, your rpm at a standard 4 stroke will make it difficult to reach 50+Mph at a kart with decent tank off.

Finally would be speed versus price, if you're in the mood to have 1 kart for your daughter which goes slow and 1 kart for you which is a super kart, I fail to see how you can ride them similarly and your price will be redicidulous to complete this project. Frankly if you do complete a shifter kart that can easily go 50 with rocket speeds your daughter will grow bored with here kart and you'll have spent 4,000 dollars on a solid kart, also any kart at that speed can't even go over a speed bump.

Have you ridden 40mph on a kart before? This close to the ground speed has a failed comparison versus other vehicles, I along with several members here have gone dangerous speeds very close to the ground, do you have a real purpose for reaching 50 if your daughter's kart will only go 20?

I say these things in no way to insult you as an individual, before I give suggestions on how to help you to build a kart that can go scary fast and hurt someone I want to know who you are and why you feel this is the speed you need to do.

as soon as you go fast enough kind of like what blaz said the whole thing gets shaky and there is a huge leap between stock and 50mph on a cart.

you might have to look at balancing wheels, upgrading bearings, slicks, high performance spindles/steering setups, brakes, and that so far i can think of is already easily 500$ if not more.

I changed gearing on my carter kart and went right at 40mph and it was scary. They aren't really made to go that fast. Things start to shake, brakes and steering don't work as they should and take off speed sucked.

I assume we're talking about an offroad kart, here, because of the 14" tires. 50 mph is pretty hairy offroad, especially with no suspension to soak up irregularities in the surface. My kart does 45 mph, and every now and then I take a run on the gravel road. I don't have enough space in my yard or driveway (also gravel) to hit top speed. On the road, the steering is hair-trigger at that kind of speed, and while the rear disc brake is very functional, it is only rear. If I were to have a real braking emergency, it wouldn't work out well for me. With the gravel underneath me, there's not a lot of traction to be had, and the potholes chan change my direction of travel instantly. I CAN picture doing 50, but I really think that it's a stretch, bordering on freaky. Safety is paramount under these circumstances. My kart is built like a brick s**thouse, 300lbs without my own weight. I have a 4-pt harness and a modified roll bar from an actual race car. Helmet, gloves, jacket etc are necessary for the speed runs, too.

Basically, just keep in mind that on or off road, make sure your kart is up to the task if you're going to attempt such speeds. A 50mph failure could be fatal. Use common sense and don't skimp out on safety.

Now that I'm done sounding like "dad", you're looking a two possibilities. 1)Motorcycle or quad engine and gearbox or sled engine and CVT, or 2)Mod your 11hp and get a CVT such as a Comet 40 or similar. I won't go over the mods as suggestions have already been made, but dealing with the governor is at the top of the list. You're very unlikely to hit 50 turning 3600 RPM. I'm turning about 4100 or so at 45MPH.

Put up some pics of your kart, that'll help with the suggestions.

we can help you if you wish, but just to give you a picture of what any failure in a kart at 50 is like. picture this, your standing in a several hundred pound washing machine, your feet are pinned against the agitator so your stuck in this thing. now you notice your in the back of a pickup truck, on the highway, at speed, with the gate down. now imagine what happens when two gangsters push you out of the back of the pickup truck? like i said, if your still interested we can easily help you, but maybe aim for 40-45 then step up to 50 if you still want to.

Sounds great! Just make sure your components are up to the task, and keep us posted. Do you have a GPS or speedo that you can check your progress with?

"bypass the governor in a test run before actually removing it." how do you do this ?

The main way to bypass a governor would be to hook the throttle directly to the butterfly, though honestly this is the quickest way to destroy a carb, blow the engine up, and potentially hurt yourself.

If you are not familiar with engines enough to go about this bypassing the governor would not be a wise suggestion.
