HELP me figure out how to make this thing have variable throttle

Briggs 6BSXS off a snow blower


Prefer to keep governor intact. Currently set to run wide open all the time. Need to change that. HELP PLEASE!

What you need is a bracket that will hold a cable, whether you buy one or make it yourself...

The position of said bracket depends on the position/movement of the throttle butterfly linkage; as it sits in the pic, is the throttle open or closed?

Ok.......what you see is a spring holding the the butterfly wide open. ...the rod from the governor arm pushes against that......understand?????? Sooooo....You need to hook a cable up on a pivot arm to that spring....that way you take tension off the spring to go to idle.....but at WOT...it's just like now...so the governor can operate just like it does now.......make sense????? There are probably other ways to do it. ..but this makes sense to me. ....

the lower spring on the gov arm is what is holding it wide open. that arm has another hole down there where I could attach a link, spring, or cable to. Is that what I need to do? Rig it so the throttle pulls it closed as opposed to wide open? How would that work? How can I overcome the spring to make the throttle return to closed? I am confused on that part.

That's normal; in a static state, the governor will hold the throttle open to assist starting, as soon as the engine starts, the governor will throw the throttle closed...

However, it appears this particular engine is set up to operate only at WOT, with no variation intended; the first thing you need to do is install a return spring to close the throttle...

Also, with the current setup, by attaching a variable throttle control, you will be defeating (or overriding) the governor; what you need is a spring between the variable control & the throttle control, which will allow you to open the throttle but, the governor will still do its job...

At this point, unless you have good mechanical & fabricating skills, it may be easier to find a different engine or carb setup...

I have both, just need help with a plan...anyone? no one has ever used a snow blower engine on a kart before?

Do you see all the little holes where that spring is attached at the bottom of the governor arm? Try moving the spring down to the second to last hole. That's gonna release some of the tension on the arm and not make it jump to WOT. Then you can fab up a cable mount, with a mild return spring.....

cool, also found part number 691383 which is a governed throttle plate, should bolt up.
