I will be running a 5hp tiller engone that spins at 3600rpm. I'm stuck on what gearing to do and what size wheels. I would be using the kart on asphalt with slight hills, so that could influence the decision.
Thanks, Zero

First, :useless:

Second, what type of kart?

My kart is powered by a 5.5hp Honda which produces around 7hp, has 10" tyres, 5:1 gearing, there's a starting point for you; the bigger the wheels, the lower the gearing needs to be to compensate...

The main factor in deciding what wheels/tyres to buy is availability; there's no point me saying "get 5'x8" rear racing rims with 11"x 8" slicks if they're not available to you...

What I'm trying to say is please fill in your profile so we have an idea of where you are...

So that's basically a racing/street kart design. ...so you will want slicks....what size depends on what speed you want and how you power them..... ( engine ....clutch or torque converter. ..).....ect.....

Anyway. ...wheels are the last thing you will need. ...actually. .....

If getting parts from Tractor Supply means picking up locally. ......ok-I guess. ....but online- there are many better places to buy parts....and you can get better parts for less. ...delivered to your door. ....Just saying. ....

Thanks. I was planning on a centufugal clutch, and a live axle. This may turn out to be a bit of a budget build, so what websites sell parts at the best value? I have put together a list of parts, and had posted that a few days ago. I wasn't planning on a torque converter, because again, budget build. I picked up a free 5hp Briggs and Stratton 130202 in great shape, so that was the engine I was planning on using. Anwothe question is what I should do for brakes? I cant find a simple explanation of how to set them up.
Thanks, Zero

Dude, you need to be more specific; 10" tyres could refer to rim size, width or overall height.

As it stands, your question has about a million different answers...

I think he's most likely referring to height. .....Zero.....you are planning on running this on pavement right?

If so you should locate the tires then you will be able to determine which wheel you need. ...

You can check 4 and 5" wheel and tire combos and get some idea of what is available. ....
