I don't know much about quads but maybe you could find an old farm quad that has four wheel drive and cut it up to fit, using all the quad parts. Just an idea.

Depending on the rear you are using and how fast you want to go.

ive seen people gut riding mower transaxles leaving the 1:1 gear and reverse. and installing a sprocket in place of the original disk brake for power.

that being said craftsman and a few other older mowers had 4 wheel steer

Im sure you could use a pair of rears. one strait and one turning.

or if you already have a live axle in the rear just add the turning one for the front. it should be fine. if you screw around with jack shafts and sprockets to get the same gearing as the rear.

or if your daring. get one. and redesign the axle and make it a live like the rear but keep the ends

well right now it has a live axle with a 150cc gy6 engine in the back and no suspension. i would consider electric motors in the front if its posible to make it work

ebay has tons and craigslist may also. it is a normal rear axle for all wheel steer riding mowers.

most good tractors have AWS now but the ones to look for were the craftsman and like 4-5 off brand mowers. from the mid 90s to early 2000s

if you can find one it may be cheaper to get a full mower rather then the just the rear axle

also not to break rules or anything but theres a guy and a forum specifically about trucks like that. also using powerwheels and making mini go kart chassis for them.

http://www.mechanicalplanet.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?2-Main-Forum
and heres the guys youtube channel
http://www.youtube.com/user/chopchop426

may give you some good ideas and info. hes working on a video atm specifically about a DIY build

in a way its the budget version of the ones you looked at. and you can build them as you see fit. he takes a old power wheels that cost 300$ originally and spends like 1k in parts on them.

much better then a 2500-10k one that is 90% the same.

his red 4X4 is a 4wd quad chassis i think its 110cc or something one of those 500$ Chinese knockoffs

iv got a set of those rear steer spindles. im going to weld the splined ends onto a standard peerless diff and run a chain to the back axle with the same size sprockets.
