Ok well, since this question is a continuation of an existing thread, I've merged the two...

First off, can you post pics of your carb?

I had exactly the same problem with my GX160 but, I need to know if the carb is the same before I can make any suggestions...

It sounds like fuel supply or plugged jet. What is the story on the motor ? did it sit awhile then would not run right or did you modify it then it would not run right . If you pull the drain plug out of carburetor bowl and turn the fuel on do you get a steady stream running out ? Bad rings it would not run with or with out choke, it takes above 60 lbs compression to run

Cheers tasmanusa .I will check my compression , the work I've done so far is cleaned the carb replaced the gaskets and fitted a oring that was missing , put a 4°advanced timeing key to "wake up the motor, and a cl.2 racing cam, pulse fuel pump,18 lb valve springs, lapped the valves, thinner head gasket, 4 pointed spark plug
Haven't tested my coil for faults as I'm unsure of what to do but will check you tube for info

But any other information about my 6.5hp lifan 196cc honda clone would be great thanks guys

Ah, the pics I've been waiting for

As I mentioned, I had exactly the same problem: After removing the carb, the first thing I did was remove the idle jet screw (the brass looking screw near the head), then poke a thin wire through the gallery (channel the jet was in)...

Now remove the black idle screw & carefully lever out the black plug under it; you should see a gallery which runs down into the fuel bowl; if this is blocked, no fuel can get to the idle jet; again, poke through it with a piece of wire; this is best done after removing the fuel bowl...

Finally, there is a gallery which runs the length of the carb which intersects with the idle tube & feeds air & fuel to the idle jet, again, no air means no idle so, again, poke it out with a piece of thin wire...

After poking through each gallery, spray through them with carb cleaner, put it all back together & it should be good to go...

carb

Lol I've cleaned the carb and that plug under the idol screw I lifted out and cleaned in there to on the plug there was a missing oring at the bottom of the plug I confirmed this by looking at the original carb which had 2 oring. But I will disassemble and give it a poke around

:wai: How did you clean the carb? Did you tear it completely down? If so, did you soak it in carb cleaner or just use carb cleaner spray? I had a fellow racer with the same problem on a GX200, he did a nice job of cleaning the carb. I tore it down and found the e-tube missing. It had fallen out when he dis-assembled the carb and did not realize it.

I know it's been said already but if it only runs with the choke on then you got a air leak somewhere, probably where the carb bolts to the motor, make sure you put the gaskets on correctly, you might want to add some gasket seal on them.. Good luck

issues

Ok I've done the following

1 . removed the carb cleaned and poked the passages with wire
2.checked fuel flows into the carb
3. Changed the spark plug and checked for spark (gotta zap for my efforts)😨
4.set the valve lash to the cam card specs
5 . checked the cam timeing dots lined up
6 . lapped the valves
7.checked the air gap on the coil
8. Checked the rings
9.new head gasket and carb gaskets

Mods done to my lifan 6.5hp 196cc honda clone
1. removed tank and fitted between the drivers legs
2.fitted a mikuni pulse fuel pump
3.fitted a cl.2 race cam
4. Fitted a 4° advanced timeing key
5.a better carb

my issues still exist if new cam or old cam or original part's are refitted:surrender::censored::surrender::surrender::surrender::surrender:

somehow you aren't getting enough fuel, is the float bowl filling all the way? try running w/ choke on then draining bowl into a small cup, see how much gas comes out....

says better carb, have you tried putting the original carb back on? guessing you've done that because that's what i'd do, i'd also put the stock insulator back on, eliminate the fuel pump, and suspend a fuel source above carb for a test run, pulse pump could be source of a vacuum leak?

Tryed the original carb still same problem I've removed the piston to check the rings but need the torque settings for the conrod bolts .but kinda had some kind of a win figured out that the black insulator is actually been cut down and ...?...noticed on the racing clones the fuel pump is mounted on the motor not were I have it on the frame so could this b a issue

Either issue could be your problem but, I thought you said it's

...getting heaps of fuel

IMHO, it's not a fuel delivery problem, it's a carb problem; the insulator, more than likely, will be the problem...

Now, if I could just figure out why my 8hp B&S keeps leaning out...

 Sorry :backtotopic:

Nixta, I noticed you said you changed the head gasket.. A head gasket leak will cause your problem also, did you try and put the old head gasket back on and see what happens?

Ok the old head gasket was really crusty hence why it was changed so by changing it the problem was eliminated and as I said I put the motor back to stock
