Hey everyone!

I could really use some help trying to identify my Comet torque converter.

I looked online at the part number list for my Carter Brothers #1755. It has a Comet 20 series listed as the drive unit. However when I went to check the part number on the belt to replace it I noticed it was a smaller belt for the very similar but older TC88.

I just don't know if it's a TC88 or a 20 series. I can't tell!

Thank you!

the driven is fairly identical between the two..
if it's not stamped with 5/8" or 3/4" it's basically impossible to tell them apart without a belt.
(with a belt you can see how high it sits between the sheaves ..
if a 3/4" belt sits flush with the outer edge the driven is a series 20 if it sits ever so slightly higher than the outer edge it's a TC88 ;))

way easier:
measure the driver stem (the hollow axle of the fixed sheave of the driver),
it's either 1/2" or 5/8" the latter being a series 20 the first a TC88

you can convert the TC to a series 20 driver though with a set of Comet Driver Shims
(so called "belt spacers")
So in case you find two such shims adding up to a total length of 5/8" for the stem...
you'd have a defacto series 20 ;)

Okay Thanks Sid!

I measured it, the part which the idler bushing rides on. It's half an inch so I guess it's a TC88!

Also, my driven unit has "5/8s" stamped on it!
