Hello, so I did the most bone-headed thing yesterday. After buying my wife a used Yamaha Vino 50cc scooter, I took it to the gas station to fill it up with gas and (yes I know) Forgot to pour in oil to make the mix. She rode around the block a few times no problem, then we went out for a ride together. We made it 8 miles before we lost power and it stalled. Now it still kicks over, so the engine isn't seized, it just didn't want to idle and stay running. I was able to get it running enough with the throttle wide open to get it most of the way home. I pushed it the rest. After realizing my error, I added one of those small bottles of 2 stroke oil to the tank. swished it up as best as I could. The scoot will kick over but only idle ruff for a few seconds, even reved up a few times for a second before it cut off and slowly idled back down to stall. I'm hoping we didn't do too much damage, and it is salvageable. I don't want to have to take the engine apart or take it to a shop. Is there anything I can do to get the scoot back up and running?

Pop the spark plug out. Turn it over, how free is it? Does it spin, or does it take some effort?

More specifically, turn the crankshaft of the engine over (pull the starter cord or crank the starter). Turning the spark plug over will not yield the desired results.

Based on working on lots of 2 stroke yard equipment your piston and cylider are most likely fried.

my son did that with a weed eater. He ran it till it died, then i put the mix in it and got one more weed eating session out of it before a chunck of piston went through the block.
You could always put it on craigslist with the infamous line "it ran when I parked it" ahahaha

Free it up with some Lucas oil, mix the gas at 20:1 and pawn it off on some unsuspecting sap.
No, don't actually do that. But running a 2 stroke without mix is no different than running any 4 stroke with a dry crankcase. Unfortunately my friend, your engine is done for. You might get it to run for a bit, but it's only going to leave you stranded somewhere.
There is literally nothing you can do to fix it that doesn't involve actually fixing it or paying someone to fix it. There's no magic engine-rebuild-and-.030-over-bore-and-a-new-piston in a bottle. Not trying to be a jerk here, but asking how to repair a burned up engine without taking it apart is really a rather ridiculous question.

Having to provide your own premix for scooters and motorcycles (or put oil in the tank, followed by gas and some swishing around) I thought was a thing of the past.
I thought most 2-stroke bikes and scooters had auto lube/oil injection now?
You can still forget to top-off the oil tank so therein lies the rub.

Of course you could always pawn it, get what you can, don't pay on the ticket, and let them keep it.
