i was getting the new valve back into the XR100R, and dropped a nut down into the cam chain hole.

i tried to get it with a magnetic tool, but the magnet broke off all the way down there too.

after about an hour of messing with screwdrivers i got the magnet out.

unfortunately now, the nut is gone, it went through a gap next to the chain and i cant find it.

___a few hours later_____

got the whole transmission off and still cant find it in the crank case.

i dont know what to do.... this is a disaster....

well, all you can do is take it apart further,

Sounds like a marvelous plan! How many people have ruined a machine because they took it apart without knowing what they were doing?

Get a magnetic pickup tool with a flexible shaft.

I guess there no more emulsified goo in crankcase.

lol nope upon removing the right side of the crank case the inside looked so-so clean.

right now i have an idea. the oil pump MIGHT be an access point into where the nut is. only problem is the little phillips head screws are SUPER tight and were ALREADY STRIPPED OUT????

seems like the only way they will come out is if i drill them out.

im looking at diagrams, trying to figure out if the pump can be removed and if i can then get access to where the nut is.

pics soon...

I assure you, the only machines Ive taken apart and ruined were my toys when I was 3.

Yeah, me too. I distinctly remember having a doozy of a time trying to nail down a factory service manual for the Fisher Price Sit N Spin when I was 3 years old, back in 1976. The customer service people just kept hanging up on me! So I ultimately gave up, peed my pants, and chewed on the dog's tail for awhile.

It's time for a overhaul to the engine, nothing better to really know how your engine is inside, but first, are you sure that the nut is inside? It seems that the nut is alive and hiding from you.

Could you turn the motor over? I would think that would tell you if theres something in there. Maybe shake it around, maybe hear if its bouncing round in there?

well i took the engine out of the bike (took alot of work), then i tipped it over and i could see it in the bottom under the cam sprocket. so i shook it and finally got it to fall out.

as soon as i got it out, i was like YEAH!

so about 6 hours work or more today, and the engine is back, and RUNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YES!!! only problem is, only now i notice that one of the head studs is too long and the valve cover is slightly open. well great.....

And to think...
All it would have taken would be a simple flush to solve the original problem. No disassembly required.
I always take the easy (but thorough) way out.

i know i wish i could go back in time and stop myself. oh well. ill have to think more next time.

the way i was told by people was that for sure, it needed new piston rings.
