Trying to get this engine running. Whenever I pull is shows signs of wanting to start but every 5-7 pulls fire shoots out the carb opening and the exhaust. Please help me.
Thx

I thought it could be the timing too, but I haven't touched that just put on a different carb. Can the governor cause the problem?

the carb was brand new so I didn't bother cleaning it. I guess I'll check it out. There's a little brass screw on the side of the carb near the throttle butterfly. Is that the air mixture screw?

To see if it has sheared, and allowed the flywheel to spin out of position. If you remove the shroud, flywheel nut, and starter cup, you should be able to see the key. If not, remove flywheel. Carefully.

ive had a carb spit fire on me once, make sure its getting fuel and that the line is not out of original position. is the old carb still useable? if so try just putting it on. if not try switching the jet/ looking at the mixture screw

Ok, t is the mixture screw the brass one on the side, if noy can you post a pic?

The old carb is leaking, I'm guessing it's the float needle or seat. I did put it back on yesterday and no luck.

I still feel that this may be a timing or ignition issue. Maybe the CDI has gone bad and is firing randomly. Did you open the engine up? Move the camshaft? Maybe a rocker arm (under the rocker cover) has slipped out of place? Broken valve spring? Double-check valve timing, rocker position and valve lash if the carb stuff gets you nowhere. See if somebody has a magneto you can borrow and test with. Check the coil air gap, and set to 0.010" if needed.

Are you certain that the timing key is okay? Be sure that the keyway in the crank is aligned with the keyway in the flywheel. For the purpose of elimination, swap in a known good spark plug.
