My brother was driving my go kart when the engine fell off because the motor mount bolts broke. From what he said the engine only hit the ground a couple of times. So I was wondering if the engine might have any internal damage? I'm not real mechanically inclined but I do have a book for the engine. By the way the engine is a KT 100.

BWHAHAHAHA only a couple times so you are good man!!!

No but seriously, does it run? The damage is already done. Why not try it out

If I were you I would just check the outside for

broken cooling fins
cracks in the engine block
check bolts and stuff that sticks out (esp intake/exhaust studs)

If you aren't mechanically inclined, you can fix that. Pull out a users manual, and if you are feeling lucky, grab a wrench and take off the crankcase. That's the easiest thing to do, just make sure you retorque the bolts with a torque wrench when you put the crank case cover back on..... OR im a retard because I don't know anything about 2 strokes so don't listen to my advice.

BUT LISTEN TO THIS: If you are going to bolt on the engine again, use grade 8 bolts and don't over torque them. Bolts shouldn't just snap for no reason, they gotta be the right size, torqued properly, and put on some blue thread locker to keep them from loosening up.

:welcome2: Shaun..

you risked ruining a KT100 because you and your brother were to lazy to inspect the mount after it hit the ground a few times...

congratulations, you're either extremely rich, or extremely ignorant.. or a mix of both.

Well yes, chances are depending on how hard it hit the ground, you cracked the case, just a seal, a bearing.. nearly everything inside a fast revving engine like that is sensible to shocks..
you need to make sure it's in good condition otherwise you might ruin it completely as soon as you hit the throttle the next time.

Take a look at ebay to find a KT100.. that should give you an idea what you're going to trash then...

OK.....I wasn't there....but neither were you 'sid...nor anyone else here....

But what I interpret as only "hit the ground a couple of times"....may mean tumbles.....

I was a little unsure with the wording the way it was.....but after thinking about it....I believe this was a one time event....(they didn't put it back on and it happened again) .....so cut the guy some slack....

There's nothing that says lovin like rubbing salt in an open wound and saying: well that was stupid....when this could well have been out of his control....

BTW.... Shaun....welcome to the forum! !!

Welcome, Shaun.

(sid, you're in the box for a few days). Cut the crap guys. This is driving me insane.

Shaun, re: your question --- depending on "how hard" it hit -- I would personally be more concerned about the mounting between carb and block, rather than internals. I don't know that engine, but if you have vacuum leaks, that's never good.

EDIT:

Hey, FYI Shaun, the messages that follow have nothing to do with you. Welcome!

Trust me....I'm about as shocked as you....it kinda hit me like a train crossing with the signal out....I never saw it coming....and in my opinion the ban was uncalled for....

But to take a step back.....and look at it.....'sids post is the kind of thing Robert doesn't want on this forum.....and he's serious about this.....

I was expecting an altered point of view response from 'sid....and (actually) ...a couple of other members.....

I don't think ignorance....or even stupidity....should be any reason to be anything but supportive to new members.....I may have been misunderstood in the past....but my issues with new members was never about that....it was about attitude.....

And....We are just killing time here with worthless banter....with members that are as or more knowledgeable than us.....or don't. make mistakes....those folks don't need us ....so we can't help them.....

And I know Alex meant no malice in his post....unfortunately...it is not how it read....

So.....Shaun has never even come close to saying anything the slightest bit disrespectful against any member or this forum....and in that situation....ANY negativity makes us look like pompous jerks....

Just my two cents.....

We have a slogan on the V8S10 forum, ( I didn't start it or come up with it, but I support it wholeheartedly), "Real Support, Without the Attitude", it would go really well here too,

I like that, Rick! That could go somewhere near the top, or maybe at the bottom of the pages. Cool slogan.

Have you taken a look at that site Robert? Lots of ideas that could be incorporated here. I've been a mod and admin there for quite a few years, the idea to condense the stickies was mine. I suggested it when I was a moderator here before, but I guess it wasn't bad enough yet....:smartass: :innocent: :D
If you look at how the stickies are done there, I think you'll like it, it's effective, handy, and not labor intensive.

So.. second time I need to apologize..

I'm sorry Shaun,
That came out harder, that it was intended.

You got me on the wrong foot earlier..
I was in a really bad mood, which is totally not your fault,
but it led to a "less carefull" choice of words.

I could have said that nicer being less of a 'nickname for Richard'.
And if -as Doug mentioned- it WAS a one time event..
then I misunderstood your situation completely...

My point to inspect that engine thoroughly before putting it back into service, remains valid though.
It's still expensive and you want to make sure you do not have to buy another one,
just because you missed to fix the minor isue you have now.

I think we've all been there at some point (I was there just yesterday :lolgoku:)

The important thing is "it takes a strong man to apologise"
