Hey.
New to the forum but not go karts.
I'm currently a full time go kart mechanic at a local amusement park. (18+ years experience with small engines)

Currently building an off-road kart.
Carter Bro's Frame, Suzuki 230(?) engine (5 speed, w/ reverse) Electric start.
Ordered a 1" x 42" axle, 2 wheel hubs (4x4 bolt pattern), 2 sprocket, disc hubs and new sprockets and chain (11t - 39t, #520 roller chain).
Adding the A arms from the Suzuki and building a new steering system.
Hoping to take it to Haspin Acres in July.

Anyone else building something similar?

Welcome!!!!
Sounds like your are headed in the right direction. Congrats on the new axle kit. I know them old junk, worn out bearings, bent axle ain't worth the head ache for me.

Keep updating your progress, there's good people here that would like to follow, and learn.

Pics taken last year after trading a chinese 125 pit bike for the pair.

Here's the current state of things: added as attachments.

Not sure on engine placement just yet. Mid engine vs rear engine. if anyone has any insight let me know!

I would certainly try to keep the engine mounted behind the seat. You may have to extend the frame and fabricate a secondary shaft to receive the power from the transmission and then back to the axle. You have your work cut out for you,
but a kart with a 5 speed transmission would be so COOL. Sounds like it will be worth the effort. Oh BTW, Welcome to the forum. Keep us posted on your progress and make sure to include pictures of you can. Sounds like a very interesting build.

Welcome! We have lots of Grandaddy builds on here. That’s about all. Should be cool. Check out Master Hacks buggy on here. Where in West Michigan are you?
Grand Rapids. Gradaddy builds?

I'll make a thread for my build when all my parts get here sometime this week. I may end up going behind the seat and lower the axle instead of adding extra shaft. I do have a spare jackshaft mount with new bearings just sitting around but seems like every time I use a jackshaft something comes loose and I get whipped with a chain or belt.

Welcome! Nice to have you here, and a shifter kart is cool! I’m excited to see where it goes.
