Hey everyone, I’ve been wanting to build an off road buggy since I was a little kid. So a bit about what I have been doing. I bought a yard dog or well a go kart like it. It had a GY6 150 in it and I replaced the piston to make it a 172 but it just never really worked right I now have a predator 420 in it having some issues but working on getting them solved I’ve been lurking on here for a while, but just saying hi and I might have some questions.

Welcome. You made the right choice for your engine. Now get the bugs worked out of it and show us some pictures.

It defiantly not pretty right now that’s for sure but I’m working on it! I’m having troubles with my engine mount flexing and skipping the chain… it might take a re design

The 420 weighs almost 80 lbs, and that's without fuel or a battery ( if you have electric start). More than double of a small block. Don't know what your GY6 weighed but probably a lot less than the 420. You need to place a 3rd bearing somewhere near the center of the axle. The extra weight is causing the axle to flex. I had the same problem with a 301, and it's about 8 to 10 lbs lighter than the 420.

I will keep that in mind I’ll have to see what I have to do to put on in!

I’m having troubles trying to search in the forums for predator 420 engines because when I use the search bar it search’s for the two words separately, and advice on how to navigate this?

The Advanced Search option is better than basic search as it gives you more control. search
Some notes:
  • search for alpha beta gamma finds posts that have all three words, in any order
  • search for "alpha beta gamma" finds that exact phrase
  • search for alph* finds any words beginning alph (ie * is a wildcard)
  • search with three or less characters doesn't work
  • search ignores punctuation marks, treating the characters before and after the punctuation as separate words.
If there isn't a topic on how to use the forum search, there should be. Otherwise, you can develop your kung fu skills by perusing https://xenforo.com

Before this gets outta hand, the OP needs to start a new thread in Go Kart Discussion (or Photo Gallery & Project Log etc) with photos and all that. . . . . . . . . you can upload them directly to the site and I think re-sizes them automatically if they're too large (I've never done a thing to em).

I want to see what kart you got. Yard dog or Yerf Dog(?) or is it some Chinese monstrosity? 😄🤔
