Just getting into the Diy karting world. My young fella bought an old jbkarting frame without engine or brakes and has recruited my help to get it running. He also got 4hp Honda water pump and was going to fit it but the pto does not suit. It just so happens we had a brand new B&S intek 6.5 hp in our shed which should suit and give him plenty of speed. Looking forward to tapping into the knowledge and experience bank of the forum and maybe even giving some of our own. Regards Peter.

well since that's a concession kart and not a racing kart;
chances are the intek will drop right in ;)
(most are made with a Honda GX 160 or GX200.. IIRC the B&S intek has the same footprint)

Don NOT GET FOOLED by the axle sprocket though.. those stock engines come with a wet clutch gear reducer (generally 6:1) so you cannot simply get a 12T clutch and take off.
that'll ruin the clutch...

So either find such gearbox (but that can turn out to be expensive) or swap the axle sprocket with a much bigger one (72T for a 12T clutch for example)

Thanks for the comments guys. The Intek sits perfect on the mounts. Just had to remove the existing adaptor plates. The sprocket has 29T and I got a clutch with 10T but looks like from what Sid said I will have to get the ratio up. I have 72T sprocket for off road buggy project that at this stage is going on my bucket list which I hope to try and fit to the kart, but it loks like it may have clearance problems. Any I will update you all later.
