Hello from Jersey

Big Hello from Central Jersey.
First time building a Go Kart for my son's (15yrs & 6yrs Old)
Something I think the'll remember... Hopefully..lol
Putting together a plan and parts list to build on a frame we just came into. (Thanks to my son's friend) He gave us the frame bellow. Came on here to learn which I'm grateful for all your posts. Alot of very helpful info and its starting to come together.. The plan that is...lol
This would be considered a Dead Axle right?
I'd like to turn it into a live axle.
The shell is pretty cool but not sure if its going to stay on after the build. Weighs aprox 40lbs...
The engines going to be either a Predator 6hp or 13hp
Do you think the 6hp 212cc predator would be enough power??

I can't tell for sure, but that kinda looks like a live axle. If only one wheel is powered (and the other wheel can go in the opposite direction if they are spun by hand) , then yes it's a dead axle. Dead axle karts are cool for the street and what not. Better handling/turning response. A lot of fun.....
Why do you want to go live axle?
Yes the 212 is more than plenty to make that kart zip around at 30-40 mph...... All depends on how you set it up. The 13 hp is just too much for that kart you got.....

Thanks, I'm so glad the 212 will be enough. I forgot to post the pic of the plastic. Have to check exactly what type of axle it is. Its belt driven ties right into the left tire.hub. the sprocket is attached to the tire. (if thats what you call it when its belt driven..)
I messed up with the type I wanted.. lol I read in one of the posts about axles that when both tires turn at once its better for accelerating and braking. Instead of just one tire doing all the work.

That's true but, handling/steering suffers as a result... All good, we'll figure it out...

What experience/skills/tools do you have to help with this?

In the 2nd photo its hard to make out the belt around the edge of the tire. I moved it over to show the setup.
As for tools I've got a pretty good arsenal.
Flux Wire Welder, Oxy Acetylene Torch, Drill Press, Compressor / Impact set. And general hand tools.
Carpentry / Commercial Driver / Handyman..lol
I would of replied earlier but I work nights hauling asphalt.

That's a dead axle. I'd keep it at that, since it's a street kart. You'll like it! What is that body? I didn't see that yesterday.......

Yea I added the pic, Its a full fiberglass shell. Thats what caught my eye first. I have some repairs to do being during transport it flew off the roof.... Didn't realize it until we stopped...lol Luckily we back tracked and found it on the side of the highway.. I post some extra pics later today. I went to harbor freight yesterday and picked up the motor. So excited....

Heres some better pics of the plastics. Fits right over the body and bolts on around the edges. I couldnt believe it when I saw it.
