Greetings all,
new to the forum and very new to gokarts. I came here seeking help and advice about a project for my sons. I need an engine, under $150 for this.

and anything else like clutch and what not. Thanks!

there should be a sprocket on the left rear wheel.

So it's engine, clutch and chain

if the brakedrum is still present and the brakeband is in good working condition that's basically it.

A throttle cable (bike brake cable will do) and you're done

In the US you can buy a 212 predator from HF (with coupon or on sale that's $99) otherwise 119.

a maxtorque clutch (12T #35 most likely) incl a chain can be had from OMB ($36)

depends on what sprocket (if still present and good) you have on the wheel there.

edit: sid you beat me! ahhrrrgggh i just wasted 2 minutes of my life! :)

The harbor freight (google harbor freight tools for a good location) 212 cc engine will cost you ~$99. Also google harbor freight coupon, there is usually a 20% coupon you can use with it. Its a good buy and a reliable engine.

Clutch will be 3/4" shaft, likely 35 pitch chain. (you need to verify this, as well as your gear ratio you want)

Also you might as well get a new brake band while your at it, you need to measure your brake drum to confirm the size:
