Hi, it's good to be here. I've been reading the forums for a few days. I'm looking for ideas/plans/advice for building a 2-seat kart, a project for my son and me. I have fond yet unfulfilled memories of drooling over go karts back in the 80's.

I'm looking for a simple design. The kart will be used primarily on pavement and perhaps the yard (nothing too bumpy). I guess what I'm looking for is the 2-seat plans that used to be advertised in Boy's Life, with the possible addition of a roll bar.

I have a 6.5hp Predator engine. I have a Hobart Handler 140 MIG setup with which I'm reasonably proficient for hobby purposes.

I'm just about settled on 1.5" square tubing @ .083 for a basic ladder-type frame. I've used it before for other applications and believe it will be more than satisfactory. I have a line on a centrifugal clutch and have found sources here on this site for other components.

So, I guess I'm just lacking some plans. I could design from scratch but would like to have at least some guidelines which I may modify slightly. Looking for guidance!

Thanks again and happy to have this resource as we begin!

Hi, it's good to be here.

Hi yourself & welcome to the forum; glad to have you...

Don't we all? :lolgoku:

Any chance you can dig up a pic or even a link to that kart?

Way more than satisfactory, 0.063"wt will be more than sufficient...

Man that is a pretty simple kart. We can come up with some dimensions for you I'm sure.

I posted some measurements of my yellow jacket single seater for poboy. Just widen it a little, and you should be good. It has the side bar height, width, ect . It might work for you. Or just build 2 single seater so you can race each other.... The cost would not really be THAT much more. And besides, can you really put a price on seeing your kids smile, having fun, and and locking into his memory, this bad@$$ pair of karts him and his dad built and raced each other with.... He will be telling that to your grandson,as he is building their 2 karts.......
Ok, mushy crap over... Go build something..... Lol
