Hey guys,

Just came across this form and boy what a find !!

I have always wanted to build a go kart ever since I was a kid but never had the tools or skills to do so, until now. Over the years I have research how to build a go kart but never really took a in depth look into it.

I guess the major points of concern for me are how to weld on a sprocket to the rear axle making it perfectly perpendicular to the rear axle. Is that a major issue ? Am I over thinking it?

How to make a proper steering system.

And lastly where do I start with engine selection? I have heard that some engines have so much torque that it can snap the chain ? Does that happen? Should I invest in an engine with a built in transmission?

I am sure this forum can answer most of these questions. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be awesome!

Welcome, I used to live in Vero Beach. I loved it there.
The sprocket hub is usually clamped to the axle and the sprocket bolts to that. You can make parts if you want, but go kart parts are relatively inexpensive, so most just use the parts that are available.
Engine selection depends very much on your intended use of the kart, as in off road, hill climb, sand dunes, street, etc
