IronSpadeCycles
Racer of all kinds
My name is Travis and I am a fabricator/designer. I own a small company building custom motorcycles here in Houston called Iron Spade Cycles. I specialize in vintage and classic cafe' racers, sport mod's and off road enduro machines.
I've also been a huge fan of Karts and Minibikes since my first kart at age 7. I've built several from scratch and currently have two karts collecting dust, a 1969 Hartman twin engine sprint kart with a matched pair of McCulloch 100cc Mc-91b's.
And a 1980 Van-K twin engine lay-down enduro kart with twin Yamaha KT-100 engines. Sorry I don't have any pictures of this one and its currently stripped down on the bench awaiting a YZ250 two stroke shifter engine for a speed run at the Texas Mile next year. That one will be a riot to run.
There is a sanctioned Kart track not far from my shop in Katy TX but they require a yearly membership fee to run the kart, all kinds of safety gear and you'll never get the track completely to yourself. The membership fee is $350/yr. Plus my Hartman doesn't fit any of the current race classes, nor is it competitive with the modern karts, it is fast but not nearly as quick as the other new karts. So it lives on the wall of my shop.
My folks just retired and bought a nice 700 acre ranch a couple hours south of Houston. I stumbled onto a build thread for the Muskin Dune Cat and really got me thinking about building a cool off road buggy.
Anyway, Just wanted to say hello. I might come and go frequently as I am self employed and its always feast or famine. Never a set schedule.
Talk soon, Travis
