Hey guys im new and in need of pointers, ansewrs and critisism..
my build is a little bigger than a kart but its really all the same ,right? Ive basicly got a trike/snowmobile/golf cart/dune buggy.
i guess my first question for today, off the top of my head is ,chain length. whats the ups and downs on shorter or longer. keeping in mind im running off the snowmobile engine and jack shaft....

frame ..custom
engine 440 ski doo rotary f/a
front suspention..golf cart
rear...trike tires
front....four bolt trailer tires

this is my first build and ive done it pretty much free,
im a welder so i fab mostly everything.
my build is near complete...{for first start, drive).if things go well....lol ya right!

any way id love to get into a conversation with someone that can fuel the fire and help me out with some knowedge...

ill get a pic up soon, she looks very frankinstien right meow.

thanks :cheers2:

Hi Brickbug, welcome to the forum.

To answer your question about chains, I have found that it is just easier using a shorter chain just because there is no slack in the chain. With a longer chain you will have to use a chain tensioner. Do a search on the forum for tensioners and you will get heaps of info

There is no perfect length, or 'right' length. As far as I know, your chain can be any length, within reason, as long as it is tensioned properly. The longer you make it though, the more problems you could run into. The chain is more likely to come off the longer it is.

How long are you thinking of making it? If you have a loom at THIS thread, you can see that Bando use quite a long chain and used a tensioner. I think the previous page had a good pic of the tensioner he used. Maybe PM him and ask him how it works.

Post some pics of your build so far

chain...

i will get a pic up soon for sure, and i see what your saying about running to trouble with a longer chain.i just thought there could be some sort of math involved. something to do with the teeth count.....? but if its just cut n paste ill figure it out i guess.

ill be back with a pic and think up some more questions.

i also have a go kart to build so maybe ill grab a pic of that build that i kinda started to piece together.....its an aluminum golf cart frame that ive hacked up and switched around.its only a fart in the wind right now but i got a 8hp briggs to put on it.being all aluminum i belive it will be pretty fast.

ill get the pics and then ill see what people think.ive never done any thing like this before so maybe someone will have some ideas for me.

oh and lets keep in mind i used no plans..so things are really half assed.basicly tacked up for easy re-moulding

thank again guys, all ideas and coments are welcome.

ive also noticed guys that use snowmobile engines not using the jackshaft and going with the axel direct through the chain case.....any reasons for this? am i doing a bad thing?
