Alright where do i begin... well i have a lady that i know through work and she is moving out of her house to an appartment since her husband passed a few years ago. she had this 10.5 hp 30'' cut rear engine murray sitting around... but it sat do to it always losing front wheels.. not sure why but anyways i got this murray lawn mower for FREE... yes i said free but i live in a residental area so yards are no more then 1 1/2 ac. what i really want to do and the reason i joined this forum is to make a multi purpose kart... one that i can basicly swap tires on and use either on road or off road... heres where im having issues... obviously my engine is a vertical shaft so ill need to figure out how to gear it all in... i obviously need a RAGB which i found a 20hp max- 3600 rpm max- peerless 1:0:95 ( https://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?catname=powerTrans&item=13-1514-A )... would this be a good one to purchase as a start to the build? what sprokets would i need to be looking at for a all around speed/torque ratio. im assuming there is no way i could have a 3-5 speed gear box with the RAGB. ill be starting off with gokart wheels and 1'' rear shaft with a hydrolic brake. i want the engine to be in the front and the RAGB to be in the center... kinda the look of a lawnmower still but gokarted out if you can see what im thinking. ill def. be gathering pictures and drawing to upload on my profile soon so everyone could maybe see what im thinking for further detailed info. i have a machinist and engineer helping and im funding and learning how to cnc and weld through this project. please help with any thoughts ideas... all will be greatly appreciated. thanks for your time and reading. im sorry it got so long...

Hi,

Could you post a photo of the ride on?

I'm curious to see it, from your description it sounds like the same model I pulled apart recently.

Cheers

Peerless RAGB are usually quite good. You would need to do a little work on it for it to withstand faster riding conditions than ride on mowers are used to. Have a look at THIS link on how to race prep a peerless 700 series

I am not too sure of the one that you have linked though.

ya im still in the researching part... ive seen that a lot of lawn mower racers use this peerless 700 type gear box and race prep it. some use 5 speed some use 3 speed i believe its more a preference thing. ill be looking into this more. would anyone know where i can find dirt kart tires and rims??? if anyone is on youtube and seen a gokart project by fearlessfront... i was thinking about doing something like that just a little bigger scale since i am 6'2''... i want my kart too pop eyes and squeel tires :-D
