Hello to everyone. My name is keegan, and ive been building homemade karts since i was in my teens. Got away from it once i got my driers license, but now i caught the bug again. Currently have a crazy project getting fabbed up, and plan on a build thread here. What i did, is take the frame from a john deere rear engine rider, cut it in half, and welded it to a dixon ztr frame pictures describe it better than words, ill get there. Anyways the briggs flathead 6.5 was DOA so i am trying to decide on a replacement. I will be keeping it vertical shaft and using the trans from the JD, which has 3 forward speeds and reverse, shift on the fly. Dixon rear tires and wheelbarrow tires up front. So far i have the cost of 1 pack of welding rod invested. Pulled the mowers from a JY. The dixon had a 10hp flatty, but its locked up. So i will be in the cost of an engine and a few bits to fab up the seat, steering, shift linkage, and belt clutch pedal. Then i also want to rig up a battery and generator or alternator to maintain it, and tap into my block and run two feed lines of oil and 2 return. Using small electric oil pumps. One to an oil cooler off a ford pickup, and the other to a large FL1A sized Purolator Boss 15k mile synthetic oil filter. Also i would run some LED headlights. Now just to decide on an engine...

Welcome to the forum!! It sounds like you have an interesting project there. I would however be a bit hesitant to use wheelbarrow tyres though. They are not meant for anything than wheelbarrow speeds.
