Hello everyone. I'm Nate, I work with a youth group at my church and lately I've been fixing peoples motorcycles/cars/4-wheelers in the area and received a couple GY6 scooters and some old 4 wheelers(totally trashed) as a thank you for my services. I thought it would be a fun project to help the youth build a go kart since the GY6 motor/CVT combination would be a convenient powerplant.(the 4wheeler motors are shot) You can view my post in the gokart forum that describes my problem of getting the output of the CVT to drive a sprocket that will then drive a chain to drive the rear axle.

Looking forward to hearing from and meeting you all.

Nate

:iagree: It comes under the heading of "give a man a fish..." Most kids have a good imagination so they can envision the finished product which keeps them interested...

Welcome! I'm new here as well. Man, I wish I had the patience to do that. Every time I try to get my son and his friends to help with a project it's like herding cats. God bless and good luck!

Well thanks. Unless I can figure out a cheap way to get this CVT/Torque converter to drive a sprocket and turn a chain around the back axle, we may end up with a three wheeled kart. This motor/cvt combo will make a scooter w/ me on it go just about 60mph, so that should be good enough to make a 3 wheeled go kart fast and dangerous enough for a bunch of just turned teenagers to have some fun on. haha. Give me a month or two to show these kids how to weld and I'll have some pictures of this frankenstein up for you all to laugh at.
