hello all, new and having abit of a problem

Hi all i have just picked up myself a kart and ran it today i found that when moving of the kart struggles alot there seem to be a clutch sort of system inside a bell type cover which in turn moves the wheels no?? Im guessing this has some type of system where the harder you throttle the more it should open out gripping the bell then should start moving off ??
What my problem is, that the clutch type thing spins very fast but isn't gripping on correctly thus causing alost me just about moving if not just reving at stand still, also its a biz kart not sure what engine it is and how would you go about modding this to set it to work at its best capabilities. Also this still happens even once the kart is warm?

could i just take out the clutch type thing a run the chain direct ? Or will this make no difference??

It sounds like you're describing a torque converter, pics will help to comfirm; have a read of this thread & see how you go

Welcome..... Fabroman, I think he is talking about a cen clutch. The "bell cover" kinda says cc cause he only references one clutch that moves the wheel. Just needs a new cc more than likely. In any case,no pics equals idle reading. ...

Yes, they are very good. Pics will help us help you, a lot.

Gearing might be an issue. How many teeth are on the clutch sprocket, how many on the axle, and what is the overall diameter of the rear tires?

"Any good" is not the right question. In the world of karts that's like comparing a ferrari to a Yugo. Will it go from point A to point B and make the right guy squeal like a little girl? Maybe...

Sounds like your belt on your torque converter has worn thin. How much research have you done, looking at pics and reading other threads from guys that have had similar problems? Doesn't sound like you've done much... we love to help a guy who' willing to do at least SOME research. Looking at pics you would at least know what KIND of clutch you have, and if it is a torque converter you would be able to see that the belt wasn't sitting correctly on the secondary (driven) clutch, indicating excessive wear.

Good idea but, it won't tell you if you have lousy gearing; if you punch in the numbers that equate to a 3:1 drive ratio, it'll spit out a top speed but it won't tell you that you'll destroy a clutch trying to reach it...

Lol still having trouble up loading them il post up the links for now, it normally works with other forums. Ive done some homework and found out its a centrifugal clutch and took it apart and its completely worn, got a new one on the way, also removed the governor, new fuel pipe old one burst some how re-mounted the fuel tank as when did remove it the fuel line was so short that it was pointless in even trying to put it back on, the new one has that extra length to it for easy removal and putting back on. I ordered a a cadet race tank, new sprocket and carrier as old one was heavily warped(buckled). Im thinking that as fitting a cadet tank the outlet pipes are at the top and having a look at the engine there isn't really away of it sucking in fuel, apart from gravity (with the old one) would you recommend me buying a fuel pump seen a few on ebay. Oh and also fitted a handbrake because i got bored lol will be off once new brake system arrives as mine doesn't hold even if fully pressed the kart comes to a slow and gradual stop, not good as ive crashed into my car twice and once into a cerb lol handbrake seems to hold alot better....
P.s. anyone know of any places to drive a kart in london ??
