As usual I'm in a hurry, but I wanted to be polite and say hello. I'm a karting freak. I know most of the who's who's around here so I thought I'd branch out and try to find a few new friends. I'm no expert I try to surround myself with those guys and gals. There is so much to know about Karting and with the constant changes it's nice to get good advice from those who do actually know what they are talking about. I have a couple of good projects going my current is my shifter kart. I had an old Margay frame early 90's a lynx maybe not sure. It got put in the corner after I wrecked it in a street racing accident that left me with a broken wrist now it's ok just full of titainiun screws and pins. Anyway I got it straightened out cut off the front hangers for flat plates so it has a heim joint type front end with disk brakes. The engine is a 1980 cr125r (last year for air cooled) it was a nightmare we ended up tearing it down and throwing away everything but the cases and tranny. I'm waiting for the pipe (RLV r2) so I can finish the framework. The motor mount ended up being a total custom due to the fact standard mounts put half the engine in the drivers lap. For shifting I'm holding out for push button electric it's the price tag ( 600 to 1000) that's holding me up.
Another subject 2 days ago I stumbled on to a deal to good to pass up A guy had a 92 Margay roller w/ bodywork w/ k55 Iame a starter for 300$. I'm curious if anyone knows what model Margay this is serial # is 921156 behind the right spindle hanger. I dropped a line to margay but no word yet.
Well I've wasted enough of your time thanks for reading and any help would be greatly apperciated.

Hey Rex, welcome to DIY.

Cool to see another race kart guy around here. I've got no idea about your serial # but If Margay doesn't reply you might try posting a thread over in the General or Sprintkart section at bobs4cycle forums. Lots of knowledgeable old timers over there that could probably narrow it down to a year or 2. (i'd suggest posting your sr.# in the title to get their attention)

See ya around man

rex, your from central Iowa, where abouts? Dont see to many people from Iowa on here.
I was born and raised in Iowa, spent most of my life in a small town about 25 miles north of Sioux City. Live up here in Montana now and boy do I miss those thunderstorms.

I live just east of DesMoines In Grimes. About 35 minutes from our new Rusty Wallace Speedway (God bless that man) We had a nationwide race last weekend (the only reason I bring this up is I'm listening to Watkins Glen time trials) See never get old weird random crap pops in and out of your head........sad ...Speaking of T-Storms We have had a total blow out the last few weeks mostly at night .......(this is leading up to something not sure what) but anyway one of my other hobbies is photographing lighting and thanks to some of my karting gear I get lots of sweet shots. With little to NO work at all in fact I slept most of the time. What gave me the idea was my little gopro wide helment cam. It can be set -up to take a photo every 2 seconds nonstop till the batteries die or the card fills up. So I have 2 mounted on the suction cup mount it starts to thunder I run out stick the thing on my car and start the cameras. ........ and go back to bed .......hours laster I go out and retrieve my gear.......one session was 8,000 pics the editing sucks.......to give you an idea of my success rate out of those 8,000 ..... only 6 keepers and it was going like the fourth of July. The ones I get are worth the work I'm working on getting them up on my Facebook......but who has the time. Speaking of I got a bent axle in my Banshee I got to swap out so I can go play tomorrow ....... it's an offset kart I make it turn right and left it gets a little hairy on the rights last week it stuck and lifted on the right side tires more so in the rear skipped sideways and that was it.... when I say it lifted I mean like 2 inches maybe on the last run I felt it (it tops out at 65.mph..at..14,500 rpm (Kt 100 Yamaha) My local high school is the weekend track. I did my annual night run last week the sheriff's dept..ah...........I'll save that for later.........Where do most of you guys play what's fav. dirt or concrete? Me dirt's ok I like the pavement. I got to go later.
