I just ordered me a battery and all the supplies I would need to wire off road lights to a switch and then to a battery. The switch I ordered (http://www.ebay.com/itm/151030171462?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT). How would I go about hooking this up? I saw a diagram like this (second picture) but I thought the switch would also neeed to be grounded? In this diagram it is not. But I am planning on following close to this diagram.

Can someone clear all this up/ maybe make me a nice diagram :lolgoku: lol thanks guys!

To add: I will have 100' of 14 gauge wire and adapters, but I do not need help with all that, just what to hook up to what!

Ground to chassis if you want, not really needed. Just wire as a regular circuit.
Test what position is power to the button light before hookingup.

Hello
First we need to know what lights your running, amp draw for both combined then select a switch , the first one is not giving a 12 volt rating and the second one says .3 amps at 12 volt . Yes lighted switch need to be grounded .
For an open kart I would be looking for a marine type switch

For both the lights, it is three amps, 18 watts per light. They are Cree LED lights from Amazon, I heard some negativity over led but I went with them. They each have a + and - coming out of them

So if I use a switch like this that has only two terminals, I would plug the battery into one and the two headlights into the other? (BTW this switch in attached picture is "marine o ring switch")

Summit has quite a selection of 12 volt switches

I would go for a sealed one keep the moisture and dirt out .
Simplest and safest rout to go is run your positive from battery to switch then from switch to lights and the ground from battery to the lights ground wire , you should put a fuse in the positive lead close to battery around a 5 amp inline

Would I be okay withouth the fuse?

It will work but its a safety issue, without and you get a short in the wire, switch , or lights it will start burning wherever the short is rather than just blow the fuse, could be a bad situation and trying to unhook the battery while the wire is burning and red hot gets kinda tough

Typical spade connectors (Female ends) go right on a 5 amp automotive fuse. So cheap so easy why not:thumbsup:

I got the lights all taken care of! With inline fuse, marine grade switch, and dual 18 watt CREE headlights!

Not sure, as I've never had to set one, but I got a great idea how to do it.... You know the engine idles at what,1800rpm....? Turn the engine on, hit S1 and see if it's reading 1800 or 3600.... If its around 1800, then it's right.... It's not going to hurt the tach ,if you push the button while it's running. Just try it, till its reading what it should be.....
Well, that's what I would do anyway..... :lolgoku:
EDIT
It might be right, already.... It says default setting is once per revolution..... Or would that be 2 stroke? Hmmmmm just turn it on and see what it says..... Then adjust it....

Set it for "03".....!! A four stroke fires every OTHER revolution.... A 2 stroke fires on every revolution.... I KNEW I was telling you wrong..... Glad I caught it though.....
Set it for "03" and you should be good.....!

Here are some pictures of the lights I mounted. I used some wood, spray painted it, drilled some holes, and mounted the lights on 'em. And as you can see I did a back light also, so cars can see me! Will adjust it downwards though, don't want to blind anyone.

Looks good
Couple things to think about, on the roof like that and you roll it the light will be history.
And a clear backup light is nice as long as you have a separate switch for it to turn off when normal running , I mean if your night driving with others behind you that thing will mess with there night vision even if facing downward , should be red or amber for normal driving
