Headers and Intake

What is up with all these header pipes, That loop around and over the valve cover. They seem to blow hot exhaust directly into the intake breather.
I have seen a few here this week. I am not picking on anyone, These seem to be prefabbed off the shelf parts.
It is my understanding that Cool air is better for HP. So why are these made this way?
I am gonna find a pick or two. If it is YOU no offense. I'm just curious.

they're called snakes.. (for obvious reason) and according to some, they increase exhaust speed on high rpms, and thus add a bit of performance.
*shrugs* I can't tell; Bret would know though if you're really interested

Anyways, it doesn't make any sense at all if the actual exhaust is pointed at the intake;
that should be kept as cool and oxygen rich as possible.

My "guess" is that they were originally manufactured they were probably originally designed with a kart in front of the maker and bent to clear bumpers or other components on a kart and afterwards manufactured the same otherwise each would have to be custom bent
