Having engine trouble!

I have a ten horse Wisconsin engine on my go kart, it starts up and idles fine, but dies when i give it gas. I'm going to the mechanic anyways because My kart needs a weld job (The steering went out on me yesterday).

Any ideas on how to fix it, or should I just wait until the mechanic gets on it.

I'd try cleaning the carb/main-jet first.
