Hi All,

I am in NJ. I recently bought a new power washer and I have a perfectly good Honda 160CC 5 HP motor from my old one to build a go cart with. I have no welding experience. I am looking to make a very inexpensive 2 seat go kart for me and my kids. Any suggestions on getting started?

Thanks,
Evan

I would suggest getting a rolling chassis off craigslist (or someplace like that), and then just try put your engines on them. To try and make from scratch (especially with no welding experience) is going to be expensive.

Thanks, i thought that was the way to go. It seems that kits minus motor are more expensive than used karts. Ill keep looking. Thanks.

Welcome! Check your engine has a 3/4" shaft with a 3/16" slot in it. This way it can be used for go karts easily.

I agree, the cheapest way is to get a used frame from craigslist. I would look for a rolling chassis cheap, then repair and replace anything that requires it.
Honda motors are good.

I will check the specs of the engine. Thanks.

I am in Belle Mead which is part of Montgomery township. I know howell well. I grew up in Marlboro. Let me know if you see any frame or rolling chassis for sale in your area.

thanks,
Evan
