my craftmen mower wont start,it wont turn over and when i try to crank it i cranks very slow and there is smoke coming from a wire that is connected to the oil filter? and i can hear a gurguling sound coming from the exhaust,also i HAD a full tank of gas in it and now its gone,i also keep it locked up at all times so no one has messed with it.

Please help!!!

Check the oil

If u have lost a whole tank then it is either on the ground or it has got though the carb and rings and is in the sump

It sounds like that is the case if it won't turn over properly

A wire on the oil filter ?
U sure it is the oil filter
Maybe a pressure sensor and if it is smoking it is either in the wrong spot or is not getting a good connection

If its the starter then u may be burning it out
If it is a ground then it is not connected properly
Or the wire is pulling too many amps

i just hooked a battery jumper up to it and cranked it,it
spit about 1/2 a gallon of gas out of the exhaust.sooooooo,anyone know how to safely get gas out of a engine?

I think it would be better to open up the cilinder head and clean all the gas that got inside there. Or you could remove the spark plug and tilt the engine on it's side, so most of the gas will float out. (Not sure if this will work though.)

hows the fuel pump? the one on my snowmobile failed and i couldn't keep it running because the pulse line kept sucking gas into the crank case. don't know if lawn tractors operate the same or not.

remove the spark plug and crank it over until any visable gas has stoped. then change the oil. youll have to change it quite a few times. then look into why your carb allowed all that gas through.

ok,so me and my brother went out and tryied to start it again, no fuel came out but there was a very loud Metal on metal grinding sound, it sounded like clutch gears grinding but it was comming from the crank case. could the fuel have washed all the oil out of the engine?

gas could mix with the oil which is also pretty bad. too much gas is bad. you may want to get new oil in as quick as possible. hopefully there is no damage done. i had the engine in my truck fill full of gas. it took 2 or 3 oil changes to get most of the gas out and i got lucky that it still runs great.

since the mower will be in the shop i need to find a push mower.i like the one above but i dont know alot about good and bad brands,any suggestions?

I had the same problem with my Crapsman mower. AFAIC, here is your problem-

Underneath your carb bowl may be a small electric solenoid. It is the Anti-afterfire solenoid and if you feed it 12v, it opens and allows fuel up the main jet. With the power disconnected, it is supposed to slam shut and stop fuel flow. In your case, it is either stuck open or not seating properly, so fuel may pass at all times. In addition to this, your fuel inlet needle (controlled by the carb float) is also not seating porperly. SO- gravity pulls the fuel from the tank, into the bowl, and up into the engine's intake- with nothing to stop it until the tank is dry.

The quick fix? A fuel shutoff valve in between the tank and the carb. The proper fix? Don't worry about the anti-afterfire solenoid, but definitely fix the fuel inlet needle issue.

All that fuel dumping thru the intake did a couple of things- It partially hydrolocked the engine, making it nearly impossible to turn over. A cylinder full of air will compress. One full of fuel will not. It also dumped a TON of fuel past the rings and into the crankcase. IMMEDIATELY change the oil and filter, and hope that nothing was permanently damaged.

The Smoke was either a result of the ridiculous amount of current the starter was trying to pull in an attempt to turn over a hydrolocked engine, and/or- you have a grounding issue. Be sure there is a solid electrical ground between the engine and the frame.

Which engine do you have, anyway?

Petrol acts as a solvent to oils

So by filling it with petrol u washed all the oil off in the engine
And diluted it so much it was useless

Id say toystory has got it
If not then the carb clearly needs a reseal
