1977 Iron head planted on a 3202 Yerf dog frame, this was not really that hard to do. But now im on the brake system and im looking at putting drum brakes off a 4 wheeler on the front with the independent front suspension.

Unless you did a TON of reinforcement, that frame will rip apart from the amount of torque that engine will produce. But it looks great! I hope I am not telling you something you did not already know, and you did reinforce it!

Either way, looks awesome!!!

Awesome!, their making new "Mad Max", :thumbsup:actually looks good mounted on there. may want to cut out cross member that it is hinging off of and replace with piece of 2 x 2 1/4 wall and beef up swing arm mounts. or put in on rails front to back so it's a "hard tail" again :lolgoku:

Sorry I can't go with the grain this time...

the thing only has 57HP at the crank... as long as OP's tubing is over .090 wall thickness. I'd say he'd be fine... Most motorcycles I've worked on with steel frames [a LOT less steel then that's on this kart, mind you] have about a .090 wall thickness on average. [about 2.3mill] and pushing the 90+ HP marks... [steel frames =/= older super sports..] I would say he's safe.. bracing in high stress areas maybe to help with twisting because of the sheer weight of the engine. but his custom rear-end seems to be 1/8" walled. should be good enough for the engines weight.

So no bigger axle i would think an engine with that much power would snap that axle like a twig .Thing is only meant for a 6.5hp engine not a 50+ hp .

its hard to see the axle. but as long as its supported properly. it should hold just fine..

Looks Great!

I own a Buell motorcycle, the engine of which is based on the Harley Sportster. It runs hot enough for Buell to add a electric fan to help cool the engine at low speeds. I would try to fabricate some scoops or a fan to help cool that engine, especially since most of the time you'll probably be running at relatively low (sub 50 mph) speeds. Maybe an oil cooler too. Be a shame to blow up such a nice engine!

I know I have a lot more to do, the axle is 1" hard steel the engine cradle is 2 inch round pipe very heavy. and I have lots more beefing up left to do. this is a not rush job. thanks for your - input. And it will not be ridged frame.

...& therein lies the problem, a yerf dog frame is built with material closer to .070" thick (1.6mm)...

I could be wrong but, I have concerns as to whether a 1" axle will "keep up" with the engine, then again, the sprocket hub really is the weakest link... just saying...

This could turn out to be a very interesting ride when it's done, keep it up :thumbsup:

The axle will be fine Ives never seen a axle snap before the sproket

That's the main thing I'm afraid of breaking on my build that and the chain, so the axle should be fine, I want to see this thing run

just joking on the hard tail, suggestion. the 2'' tubing looks like
1'' with that massive engine combo but still looks spot on in size to frame ratio, will enjoy watching this one. and a on board video clip when its done??

yeah 1 inch should be fine for the axle.. also its 1977 Harley engine... I mean common, its not a super sport. More revs more HP. this thing prob has like a 9k redline.

Ah see I wasn't sure what the yerf dogs frame was made out of, I haven't touched them in terms of welding and chopping up.

I just didn't wanna discourage the OP from the build.. putting a little defense on his side.

I have a Buell too, and yeah the motor has a fan, but its in back to suck the heat out. There's a lot of frame around the rear cylinder that impedes airflow. Plus that motor makes about twice the power of the Sporty motor its somewhat based on.

in my build in using a atv engine wasn't concerned with axle size as much as using a sealed bearing, the housing I had mad were made to press bearing in each side but I din remove the inner seals on them so I could add extra grease to try and keep them from running hot, cause even a sealed bearing has its limits and will loose grease and the seals aren't really sealed pop one off not much to it, figured if bearing got hot it would shrink/warp the seal and leak anyway.
