Harbor Freight Motor

I just picked up a harbor freight motor for my kart. I am going to place the gear reduction clutch on it. As I was swapping it to the new motor, I realized a problem. The Harbor Freight 6.5 has a output shaft about 1/8-1/2 inch longer than the Honda. Son of a b! Now I have to ground off that extra little bit for the clutch to fit on right. Aside from different heads on the bolts, are there any other differences between HF motors and Hondas?

why would you need to grind it off, it should just slide on. Unless the crank is in the way you chould be fine.

Under this post you will see its not a normal clutch, its a wet clutch inside a big case!

And because the case is made for a specific length (shaft), it hits the casing. I'm not sure why the clone company decided to make the shaft longer. Maybe it was a patent issue. The problem is, if I grind the tip of the shaft off, I think that will void my 1 year warranty.

If you take good care of it, then you shouldn't need the warranty...

Anyways, I see no reason to have the gear reduction anyways. Unless you're in need of major torque, the converter is useless.

Quite often the shaft diameter on the Honda with the clutch/reduction unit is 20mm instead of 3/4".
