You could also use a small spring to connect your throttle cable to the butterfly, so that when you mash it, the spring will absorb any shock. This will require a little fooling around. Too weak, you'll experience a lag in the throttle, maybe a bounce. Too strong, you lose the shock absorption. Or, you can do it Nerfo's way, I see no problem with it.

I somewhat meant you need to have things in sync... My real message was DO NOT F*** WITH THE BUTTERFLY ON YOUR CARB. There are other ways to hook up your linkage in nearly every circumstance that still give you the same effect. Sometimes it may be very difficult to interpret what I mean. I'll take a picture tomorrow of a clone we've got on our motor shelf with an aftermarket linkage kit to jump the gov installed so you can see why it wont damage the butterfly. We should not use the buttefly as a pivot point to hook up the cable and then yank it back ruthlessly using a spring, it will work amazingly well for weeks but in the long run it will destroy your carb.
