Upon hearing the news about these engines being marked down i figured id try to get my hands on one so i put my 5.5hp jiandong honda clone on craigslist for 80 bucks and i got a reply! haha thats what i paid for my whole kart... anyways my plan was to sell the 5.5hp and just buy the 6.5hp HF motor. Do you guys suggest that i do this?

A 6.5 would be a little better but I'd sell the 5.5 and try to buy a 13hp.

i was trying to keep something with a 3/4 shaft so that i could use the reduction box with internal clutch that it has now. im pretty sure that its rated max 8hp and the 11 or 13 hp motors have bigger shafts and more hp than rated. Thanks for the reply ill see if the guy comes to buy it today so i can pick it up today.

Will my cart go any faster with the engine upgrade? I was thinking in the future just adding small stuff like straight pipe, k and n filter, governor removal, etc.

Yeah I understand, good point.

If your kart was geared to allow your 5.5hp to reach its max rpm, the 6.5 would probably achieve the same max rpm and top speed.

Although a 1hp more powerful engine should accelerate a little faster and also give you the potential of re-gearing your kart for a slightly higher top speed if you wanted.

And if your kart was heavy or you were climbing hills, the 6.5 hp engine would obviously always give an advantage in both acceleration and potential top speeds. (and the 13hp would theoretically double this potential...)

Bad news. The 6.5's are back up to 94.99.

Thats a load of crap. Look on the website. So annoyed the uk dont have these motors. Thats such a rediculous price!! I would just buy like 15 and make a few hundred in a years time.

Well, if you'd get a clutch rated up to 20+ HP, you might as well get 18 if you can fit it, but keep in mind that it's probably a 2 cyl engine. That beast would pull though and you could probably get away with a higher gear ratio as it would have considerably more torque and wouldn't exactly need the lower gearing, so you could get more speed. Plus, the internals are of better quality so you could probably remove the gov. without doing costly upgrades a clone would need.

turns out he wants 100 for it now, regardless its a good deal IMO. for the clutch i was just thinking of using the gear reduction unit as a jack shaft. id put a pulley on the engine that goes to a pully on the input shaft of the gearbox and then the belt drive to the axle.

i know its not safe but id put good oil in the gearbox and its only temporary, until i can rank up the dough for a clutch or a tc

Sorry about that. I got an email from Harbor freight saying I was now on the preferred email group and the motor was 94.99. Who knows, but it is still 74.99, just looked. Sorry for the wrong info.

Go to the actual store. Things may be different.

What is so special about the CA ones? What gives them less emissions?

EDIT: I just checked www.harborfreight.com and searched "greyhound" and got both 6.5s for $74.99, the 11HP for like $159.99 or something, and the 2.5HP for like $129.99 maybe (I didn't really look closely at the 11 and 2.5 prices).
