Turkey is not a big protein source here in South Africa. I think most people here find it just too tough. I have had it a few times at Christmas dinner, but thats about it :D :D

Poor South Africans, they don’t have any teeth! In all seriousness, turkeys are one of the hardest things to cook and cook well, especially whole, and they often get dry. I understand spatchcock-ing poultry is a game changer however. Our turkey was deep fried, juicy and cajun seasoned 👌 (chef’s kiss).

So what do you have for celebratory meat?
We don't have Thanksgiving, so I cant really speak to that holiday, but for Christmas we would normally do things like a roast leg of lamb, gammon, roast beef and maybe chicken. We would also have crispy roast potatoes, rice and an assortment of vegetables. I am a sucker for my moms roast lamb. It is strange that turkey isn't a bigger thing here, because South Africans like any sort of meat on a bone:ROFLMAO:

If you want to do well opening a Takeaway joint, you cant go wrong with chicken. Any type of chicken. And we love having a braai (barbeque), so anything cooked over an open fire on coals or wood is a winner too. Last year we did a roast lamb in the Weber as part of Christmas lunch

Sound like a huge pot with a crapload of oil needs to be used to get that right:D I love anything Cajun, so I think I would like your turkey
I hate turkey too. I had spaghetti Os with meatballs! :ROFLMAO:
Nothing wrong with that!! As long as the meatballs weren't out of a can too:LOL:

Franco American has been a brand name under Campbell Soup since 1915. I must have been remembering the good old days.
