Hey guys, new member. Dragged home a kart with a H60 Tecumseh; previous owner said it just quit (Prob was run last a year or 2 ago). Zero compression, pulled the valve cover and it has a broken pushrod. First question is for ideas on what caused the broken push rod? I assume everything else needs service/maintenance but not sure if the motor is worth throwing a couple bucs at when replacements seem reasonable. Has comet clutch setup, are rebuild/service parts available?. Thanks for your advice-

Update: Engine is OHH60 and pushrod is in bottom of crankcase due to cracked spring retainer.

If you don't find one by Friday, I have a running tec with a destroyed output shaft. I can yank all those things out for ya. I'll never do anything with the engine.....

Thanks 86, you're correct on the model # OHH60. Also, pushrod may not be broken, it appears the spring retainer cracked and the pushrod has fallen into the crankcase. I am going to pull the head to inspect the valves. Can I retrieve the pushrod with just the head removed or should I go ahead and do a full teardown? Any easy mods I should consider as long as I am in there? Thanks again guys.

No worries KenRec.

I would pull the side cover just to be safe nothing fell in the bottom end. You already have the valve cover off so you can see where any parts would or could have fallen down inside. Roll the pushrods on a flat surface to make sure they are not bent and inspect the ends. Spec for valve lash is 0.004" for both valves.

Found the pushrod. Looks like the gov gear is toast, any harm in test running the engine without it, or should I replace it as long as I am in here?

Disregard the above. Note Correction, the following parts require replacement:
Intake Valve (chipped @ retainer location)
Valve Retainer
Gov Gear
Cam shaft (plastic gear is chipped).

Current price on Harbor Freight 6.5hp is tempting at 119.99 lol.

No governor needed..... :2guns:
Predator is a great engine, especially now..... :lolgoku:
Go buy the Predator, with a coupon, and get it for a $100..... If you want to try replacing what needs replacing, with good used parts, let me know. If it runs, it runs..... If not, you're not out of pocket a big chunk of change.
In all honesty, when you take the first ride with the 212 power, you will forget all about the tec engine..... :wai:

I have a coupon here, but the fine print indicates it is not valid on Predator power products? Someone clue me in, please!

I'll send you a pm re: parts. Many thanks-

I think I have found the Canadian version of the Predator clone engine.

Its from TSC and its called a "Power cube". Has the angled air filter cover and cast valve cover, so it could be a hemi head clone. I dont know much about these knock off engines.

Its cool that they are making 7hp with 206cc

Old school big block ;) I have always kinda wanted one of these older Tecs but they are really wide for minibike use and I like to run my karts with a straight clutch and no governor, Tec big blocks dont like to be spun up past 4500rpm or so.
