Gy6 motor problem

I have a 150cc go kart with the gy6 motor in it. Lately when I start it makes a whining noise, not the battery I checked. So I rode it today everything worked fine. But I just went to put it away when you gas the motor it leaps forward, barely moves and back fires a ton. What could it be? Is the motor not worth fixing?

variator is probably junked up.

Take the cover off and clean it out.

It is located behind the crankcase cover by the left wheel where the exhaust pipe is bolted to. The way to remove it is take the exhaust system off. Two bolts where the port is then take the left rear wheel off. Next you on bolt where the exhaust goes into the crankcase cover. Then there will be 8 bolts unscrew those. If this is your first time taking it off you might have to tap it with a hammer a few times and it will pop off. Then to get to the variator you will need an impact wrench to remove the clutch bell housing then slide the clutch off. Then you remove the belt. The variator will be located where the other end of the belt was. Hope this helps! Had to do this few times with mine!
